  • San Francisco – Trip Overview & Planning Guide

    A. Trip Overview

San Francisco serves as the grand finale—or starting point—of an epic 10–15 day West Coast journey. The experience connects the glamour of Los Angeles, the dramatic coastal cliffs of Big Sur along the legendary Pacific Coast Highway, and culminates in San Francisco’s rich history, waterfront charm, and cultural sophistication. Landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island anchor a city known for innovation, diversity, and striking natural beauty.

    B. Duration & Flexibility

    • 10 Days: A dynamic itinerary covering Los Angeles, the Highway 1 coastal drive, and San Francisco’s major attractions.

    • 15 Days: Allows for a more relaxed exploration, including nearby natural wonders like Yosemite National Park or an extension to Las Vegas.

    C. Mode of Transport

A rental car is essential for the road trip segment, particularly for driving Highway 1 through Big Sur.
Within San Francisco itself, public transportation is efficient, but parking is limited and costly. Traffic congestion can be significant during peak hours.

    D. Key Planning Notes

    • Highway 1 Conditions: Always verify road status before departure, especially around Big Sur, where landslides may result in temporary closures.

    • National Park Reservations: Yosemite frequently requires advance timed-entry reservations during peak travel seasons. Early booking is critical.
